Revisiting Petaling Street ( Chinatown ), Kuala Lumpur

My main mission was to look out for the Traditional Kaya Swissroll which i mentioned earlier on Yut Kee. I searched up & down, left to right .... to be precise, i explored the whole of Petaling street but couldn't find anyone selling it. Those vendors who used to sell it @ the shop in front of Central Market, @ Lai Foong Kopitiam & the one @ Lok Ann Hotel was no longer there. From what i gathered from the older generations of Petaling Street, they stopped renting the space @ these places because of the unbearable rent imposed. One of them have moved to Pudu somewhere near the old cinema ' Sing Kwong ' but was told that one need to be familiar with Pudu vicinity then only will be able to find it. Hmm, was this Por - Por ( granny) trying to challenge me ??! LOL

But then, i did had a great time down memory lane. Petaling Street & Central Market was my 'territory' during my schooldays. I would have my lunch before heading back home by taking the Selangor Omnibus @ Central Market. I remember very well, the pressure of getting ready to attack for a seat when the bus is just around the corner. Everybody will be swarming the bus once it stops @ the station ... pushing & squeezing to get into the bus was a daily scenario back then. Those were the days ....

The famous Longan drink

Authentic Bubur Cha Cha tong sui with the springy starch

Deep fried potato balls

Not so yummy compared to the one i had those days.

The veteran Apam Balik Uncle ( Chinese Pancake )

With generous sprinkling of golden roasted peanuts

My mum's favourites during Chinese New Year. Dried sugared candy made of coconut cubes, coconut shreds, carrots, lotus seeds, lotus roots, ginger, bittergourd, etc

The refreshing Cendol Ice from  Madras Lane

The famous Sze Ngan Chai Siew Ngap ( roast duck )

Tender & juicy ... Yummy !

Mua Chee ( Cooked glutinous cake coated with roasted peanut )
Luckily i wasn't wearing my Man Utd jersey. If not, this Liverpool granny wouldn't have given me extras ... ^_^

Nom .. Nom.... Nom ......

Traditional Chinese Clogs. I hate wearing it during my teens because it makes me tripped most of the time !

One of the historical landmarks ....

Tadaa ... i had my lunch @ Soong  Kee beef noodle after so many years. My dad would bring me here for supper when i was a kid.

Now !  I won't ask for the bill unless i make an order for an extra side dish. My favourite beef tripe but the Burmese waiter served it together with the beef slices .....  communication error !! Nevermind, as long as it's edible, i'll wallop anything ... LOL

Poor birdie looking around for food :(

Central Market has changed drastically ....

These are the traditional big cookie jars used those days. Either with this red cover or the aluminium cover.

An antique jewelry chest

WOW ! another antique item .... tiffin carrier

Saw this Uncle selling authentic fruits rojak on my way back. I was soooooo tempted ! The fruits were only being cut when there's buyer.

The Rojak sauce was prepared manually by mixing all the necessary condiments such as lime juice, roasted belacan powder, shrimp paste to name a few.  Most of the Rojak sellers nowadays uses the all - in - one Rojak sauce by just mixing in the fruits. And the BEST part is, grilled tau fu pok ( beancurd puff ) & water spinach was added ! That's the way aha aha i like it, aha aha .... LOL

Burppppp ..... sorry, nothing left to spare.... all in my tummy ^_^
Even the texture of the crackers were the same like those days & the sauce was great. Voila !

P.S.   Hope your saliva's not dripping non - stop after seeing all the drooling yummies, If u ever need a bib, do let me know !! Lolsss
