Pudu Wet Market ~ Lum Mee, curry puffs, rojak, cendol, etc

After so many years, i made my marketing trip back to this market because i can't get fresh beef meat from my residential market. It was really a trip down memory lane ..... My dad used to bring along my brother & myself to this market during his marketing years back in the mid '70s. I was only 6 years old then & he would place me on top of the square iron chicken cages at the poultry stall to wait for him to done with his marketing. What an experienced ...... i was scared to death !

Not much changes tho ... the authentic stinky smell is still around. That's the signature of Pudu Wet Market !!
Those people must be thinking this gal is not in her right mind .... taking photos of a wet market while busy with her marketing .... LOL

It feels good to be able to recaptured some of the 'memories' ......

Pet stalls along the main road heading to the wet market

Fishes & birdies for sale

Tadaaaaa ..... the famous Pudu Wet Market

It lives to its name ....  the whole market is forever WET !!

One of the few traditional Chinese grocery shop that's still around

Remember this ?!!  It wasn't biscuit cans on promotion tho ....

The shopowner  having some cash in his hand after a transaction & he's gonna pull down one of the biscuit can which is tied to a string & then drop the cash into it. YES ! it's an old school cash 'drawer'. Didn't manage to snap a photo of the action coz this Uncle was real fast with the $$$ .... Lolsss

Flock of pigeons around the market

I believe i can fly .... I believe i can touch the sky .... Lolsss

A fresh sugarcane juice stall within the market that still uses the original juicing machine

I was there late afternoon. Most of the vendors were chatting away while calling it a day

This cage looks similar to the one my dad sat me on but the one i sat on was more conventional

An Indian vendor selling spices & herbs

Just tell him which type of curry you intend to cook & he'll mix the fix for you from all these spices

Seamstress altering pants for customers. Just send in your broken zipper, pants, skirts, etc & they'll get it fix back to a brand new ones

Was surprised to see a typical candy / tidbits shop around. This was the kinda shop i went to shop for my goodies back then in the '70s when i was staying in Imbi Road

Another typical encounter .... Chinese medical shop using the wooden drawers to store Chinese medication  herbs & pre-packed medications hanging above the counter

Time for F&B explorations .....  An Indian Cendol stall

Yummy Indian Rojak with octopus

Additional toppings for my Cendol .....  sweetcorn & glutinous rice. Wanted the red beans too but i dislike the big type, i prefer the small type which is more aromatic

Fresh coconut water to quench your thirst ....

The famous Pudu Lum Mee

Thick yummylicious gravy

Another famous spot ....  roast goose. RM 21.00 for a roast goose thigh .... phewww !

Before coming to Pudu Market, i did stop by @ Imbi Road in hope of getting the famous Curry puff sold by my childhood neighbour but it was not there. Saw a roadside stall that's selling something similar to the original ones @ the other side of Pudu Market.

Well, the filling looks exactly like the one i used to had during my teens but overall it was a let down. It tasted kinda sourish which i'm not sure of whether it was stale or they cooked it sourish

The famous Pasar Road School back then & my eldest brother was one of the student. It's no longer in service ....

A typical Rumah Tumpangan or so called Motel in the heart of Pudu Market

Apart from the modernized development along the busy Imbi Road with high end hotels around, this Chinese temple still 'standing' firmly ....

That's all for now folks, i enjoyed my trip down memory lane .... hope you've enjoyed viewing it too.

CHEERS TO MEMORIES ! ^_^

P/S : People living without memories are ALIENS ! LOL

Yorkshire Pudding & Toad In The Hole

My son brought back quite an amount of sausages from a BBQ party last night. Woke up this morning & the first thing that striked my mind was to make these two Classic British Cuisine. It was my first attempt & it came out very well. Really happy with the result ^-^

Yorkshire Pudding rising beautifully in the oven

Lam Mee @ Damansara Utama

A friend brought me to savor the yummy May King Lam Mee @ Pudu quite some time back & today was told that it has an outlet @ Damansara Uptown. Without any hesitation, i make my way there after lunch hrs. I was there by 2.30pm but was rounding for a parking lot. In the end, i gave up & went into Uptown 5 parking. This parking building was SO QUIET !! Without any human in sight even it was fully occupied on mostly all the levels. No security guards in sight too which gave me a chill down my spine for the fear of being 'stalked ' ..... i was with my 2 boys & we can't find the exit even with signage leading to the lift & lobby. The situation was getting scarier & we ran our lives out using the exit for cars going out of the building. Finally, it was a relieved we we see sunshine as we were exiting the last level. WOW ! sounded as though i was in a thriller movie huh ?! LOL

OK, back to the Lam Mee. We walked quite a big round to get there & tadaaaaa ........

Found it !

The pricing

Additional menu

Simple table settings

The famous Lam Mee but it was a let down. Not as tasty as the one i had before. The taste of the gravy was mild & the noodle was kinda hard in texture.

My boy had Nasi Lemak with fried chicken. I forgot to try a spoonful of it. Surprisingly, my boy gave the fried chicken to his younger brother .... not sure if it was not tasty or he was done with his meal.

Soup dumplings & stuffed ladies fingers

Just a plain fish paste without any condiments. Failed !

Their signature fried Foo Chook

Total let down ! Rather than being crispy, it was hard & cold when served. As you can see, only the outer layer was fried but not the center layers which still holds the original Foo Chook texture.

Fish meat balls .... no comment ....

The bill came up to RM 43.00 with 3 glasses of Iced Cincau.

Fullhouse Lifestyle Cafe @ Jalan Yap Kwan Seng

Before heading for this place, i googled up for informations on it & from most of the reviews i've read, majority are negative feedbacks. So, i was kinda sceptical with this new place that i'm gonna check out soon. In the end, i just went with my hubby instead of bringing the whole family.

We reached @ 6.30pm for dinner & the place was quite vacant with only about 4 tables occupied. Still, i waited for quite some time to get hold on a waitress to placed my orders. The place was kinda humid due to the poor air-conditioning system & air cooler was stationed to save the condition ' a bit ' !!
BINGO !! this was one of the point stated in those reviews. As we were having our meals, flies can be seen landing here & there on our table. Yucksssss ...... disgusting ! ..... & what told by others on the reviews are true also .....

Not sure about the Iced Lemon Tea but my Lemon Mojito was more like drinking sugar syrup mixed with plain water with thin slices of lemon & mint leaves thrown in :(

Wild Mushroom Soup which was served @ room temperature. I can pour the whole cup of it into my mouth without scalding my tongue !

I ordered Funghi Spaghetti but was served Vongole Spaghetti. Called out for the waitress who took my orders & told her this was not what i asked for but instead on checking on her fault, she kept telling me, " This is what u ordered ". Fine ! i gave up. not gonna degrade myself arguing with this kinda unprofessional F&B staff.

Mix seafood in Orange sauce. Served @ room temperature as well !!

Lamb shank was a total let down too coz it was also served @ room temperature.

I really can't figure out why all the dishes served are cold ( room temperature ) not even lukewarm ! Instead of enjoying our meals, we were like 'FORCED' to take our food bcoz we have to pay for it !!
After finishing our meal, with our beverages still half a glass available, we went out to shoot some photos which was just few steps away from our table. Before going, my hubby told me, " how if they clear off the table ? "  I replied," Nah, they won't, we didn't ask for the Bill yet". To our surprised, within that short few mins when we head back to our table, EVERYTHING was cleared & new setting was laid. I called out to the guy @ the counter & said " Why she cleared my table ?? We've not finish our drinks yet !"
WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATIONS OR A WORD OF APOLOGY, HE WENT BACK TO THE BEVERAGE COUNTER & RETRIEVED OUR DRINKS & SAID, " THESE ARE YOURS RIGHT "...... & LEFT .....

WE WERE DUMBFOUNDED !!!!!!!!

We settled the bill & this was a nightmare to me in my F&B hunting history. Everything looks nice from the interior atmosphere & food presentations but it was just a gimmick actually i would say .....

Poor service, flies visiting, poor cooling system, cold dishes, etc ........ For a person who's in F&B too, this is really ....... rolled eyes & speechless. WHAT A WEEKEND !

English Breakfast

Woke up on a beautiful Sunday morning, cooked a wonderful Brekkie for my family. Would say that this is an authentic English Breakfast except for the Black Pudding which we don't take. Everything was done within minutes. All you have to do is get 2 frying pans & a small pot in position & cook the ingredients at the same time. Yes !  it's called multitasking but sounded more like an Octopus in action huh ?!  Overall, the result was satisfying ..... Nom ... Nom ... Nom ...... ^_^

Yummy

Homemade Roast Pork Belly a.k.a Siew Yoke

After much dilly dally, finally i 'settled down' to make this dish during the Raya Holidays. Quite a tedious mission tho but the result was excellent for a first timer. During the grilling process, i could hear the POP POP sounds from the skin where bubbles are popping out. This is when i know that I've accomplished my mission ^_^

Crunchy skin .....

Juicy .....
